To Members and Friends of the Cypriot Community Association of Queensland.
Dear Sir / Madam,
On behalf of myself and the Management Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you, to join us at the commemoration of the 52 Year Anniversary of the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus, to be held on Friday 24 July 2026.
Joining us at this event, will be an official representative of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Dr. Nicholas Ioannides along with His Excellency Mr. Antonis Sammoutis, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia.
The commemoration will begin with a Memorial Church Service to be conducted at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George, at 33 Edmondstone Street, South Brisbane, commencing at 6:30 pm.
This will be followed by a Wreath Laying Ceremony, at the Hellenic RSL Memorial, which is situated in the courtyard of the Church, in remembrance and honouring the lives lost and those who have fallen, for the freedom and democracy of Cyprus.
Immediately following this ceremony, we will proceed to Cyprus House, 2 Vulture Street, West End, where the commemoration will continue with a short function in name of the anniversary. Light refreshments will also be served.
This commemoration marks 52 years since Cyprus was invaded, leading to the deaths of thousands (with more than 1,000 people still missing) and the forceful removal of more than 200,000 Greek Cypriots from their homes. The invasion is still evident today, half a century later with the illegal occupation of 37% of the island, and over 40,000 Turkish troops stationed in Cyprus.
We urge everyone who seeks justice for Cyprus and its people, to come to this event and show their support, as we continue to advocate for peace and a free, unified Cyprus.
Yours sincerely
Stathi Zambas President – Cypriot Community Association of Queensland
